Road access to landslide-hit Indonesia-Malaysia border back to normal

Vehicle access on the national road to the Indonesia-Malaysia border at the landslide site of Bukit Genting Lanjak, Batang Lupar District, Kapuas Hulu Regency, West Kalimantan (Kalbar), is back to normal.

“We have cleared the piles of landslide material that covered the road. Currently, road access has returned to normal,” Commitment Making Officer (PPK) of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Sri Bintang Pamungkas told ANTARA, in Putussibau, Saturday.

In addition to cleaning up piles of landslide material, his party has also anticipated the potential for subsequent landslides by making a new slope or re-sloping.

Nevertheless, he said, road users must remain careful and prioritize safety when driving, especially in landslide-prone locations.

He said the landslide handling had been carried out since Thursday (11/04) after the landslide that hampered the flow of public transportation to the border and vice versa towards Putussibau City.

The incident also coincided with the Lebaran homecoming, even during the return flow of Lebaran, also the activities of the community using the road were still disrupted.

“We will clean up the landslide material from April 11 to 20, 2024, until access on the road is completely back to normal,” he said.

Meanwhile, Head of the West Kalimantan National Road Implementation Agency (BPJN) Handiayana said that alternatives for permanent handling will be further analyzed by looking at post-landslide slopes and cleaning up landslide material.

“What we have done is clearing the landslide material from the road body, so that the traffic flow can run smoothly,” he said.
