Social networking service company Meta thinks Vietnam has the potential to become a “dragon” in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) thanks to its strong determination, entrepreneurial spirit, and open government policies.

Frankel attributed the growth to the unwavering spirit of the Vietnamese people and the government’s increasingly open policies, particularly in the field of technology, including collaboration with countries such as the United States and the American business community.

While acknowledging Vietnam’s progress, he emphasized the importance of maintaining open government policies to attract global investors and technology companies. He also reiterated Meta’s commitment to support Vietnamese companies in driving innovation and advancing AI and semiconductor technology.

“The (Vietnamese) government must remain open and continue to be a place where investors and technology companies from around the world want to come and do business,” he said.

Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Trn Huy ông highlighted Vietnam’s proactive efforts to catch up with global AI developments. He cited government initiatives, including the implementation of a national AI strategy until 2030 that has propelled Vietnam to the 55th position in the AI readiness index by 2022.

Several Vietnamese companies, including FPT, Viettel AI, VNPT AI and VIN AI, are heavily involved in AI research and application, he said.

As for 2024, Meta plans to introduce AI products and services in Asia Pacific, including Vietnam. Meta has a roadmap to launch AI products on WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram by 2024 in Asia Pacific and Vietnam.

Meta also believes that AI products and services can support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Vietnam to drive innovation and growth.
