PM Anwar Ibrahim Congratulates Prabowo

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has congratulated Prabowo Subianto on his success in Indonesia’s presidential election in 2024.

“I have contacted the President-Elect of the Republic of Indonesia, His Excellency Mr. Prabowo Subianto, to extend my congratulations on his success in the recently concluded Indonesian Presidential Election,” Anwar said in a post on his social media account accessed in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.

Anwar said he was informed that he was the first leader to congratulate Prabowo after the official announcement of the election results by the General Election Commission (KPU).

It was quite meaningful as it symbolized the very special value of Malaysia and Indonesia’s friendship as close and important neighbors, Anwar said.

“Congratulations and good luck and I express my confidence that Mr. Prabowo will be able to carry out the mandate given to him to the best of his ability for the continued progress and prosperity of the Indonesian nation,” he said.

“We are both determined to strengthen bilateral relations covering various aspects as neighboring countries and pledge to work closely together in various multilateral forums, especially within ASEAN,” he said.

The Indonesian KPU has declared the pair of Presidential and Vice Presidential Candidates Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka as the winners in the presidential and vice presidential elections in 2024.

The determination is contained in KPU Decree Number 360 of 2024 concerning the Determination of the results of the General Election of President and Vice President, Members of the House of Representatives, Regional Representatives Council, Provincial Regional Representatives Council, and Regency / City Regional Representatives Council Nationally in the 2024 General Election.

“The results of the General Election nationally as referred to in the First Dictum to the Fifth Dictum were determined on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at 22.18.19 minutes WIB,” said KPU Chairman Hasyim Asy’ari.

Hasyim revealed that the Prabowo-Gibran pair won 96,214,691 votes. Meanwhile, he continued, the Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar pair received 40,971,906 votes, and the Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud Md pair received 27,040,878 votes.

The total valid ballots, according to him, amounted to 164,227,475 votes.
