Arriving at a house on No.43 Hàng Thic Street, the man sitting in the back jumped out of the motorcycle and stopped a foreign tourist and brandished a police card.

The tourist, later identified as Mohammad Iftakhar Hossian Khan, a Bangladeshi national, showed his passport and wallet to the alleged fraudster.

Mohammad told police that he was stopped suddenly while walking. The scammer showed him the police card while identifying him as Interpol and speaking to him in English.

But because Mohammad was unaware of the laws in Vietnam, he admitted that he was worried and scared, so he gave all his papers and belongings to the foreign man. Fortunately, the incident was noticed and quickly stopped by the Hàng Trong Neighborhood Police.

The results of the neighborhood police investigation showed that the two men were a 55-year-old Pakistani national named Abdul Aziz and a 50-year-old Iranian national named Jahanbakhsh Ghiasi.

While questioning Ghiasi, police seized a police card from London, England with the name and photo of Abdul Aziz that he had previously used to threaten the tourist.

Aziz confessed to the police that he made the card in Bangkok, Thailand for 500 baths with the aim of intimidating foreign tourists and seizing their belongings.

Ghiasi also confessed that with this practice, the two had managed to defraud an Indian tourist and take 10 million Vietnamese dong ($6.4 million). The money was then used for personal spending.
