Former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad is still undergoing treatment in hospital for an infection he has had since January 2024.
Tun Mahathir in a statement via his X account accessed in Kuala Lumpur on Monday said he was still undergoing treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN) due to an infection experienced since last January.
“Alhamdulillah, my health condition is getting better thanks to the prayers and hard work of the doctors, nurses and staff at the IJN,” Mahathir said.
He hopes to recover soon and be allowed to return home.
“So far, sometimes I am allowed to go home for a short time or “home leave” by the experts here, but I still have to spend the night at IJN,” Mahathir said.
In the same post, Mahathir and his wife, Hasmah, wished all Muslims in particular a happy and safe Ramadan.
“Alhamdulillah, we can meet and be given the opportunity to perform worship and practice in the framework of a very special month for Muslims,” he said.
