3,115 Indonesians Participated in Repatriation from Malaysia in the Last Week

A total of 3,115 Indonesian citizens (WNI) in Malaysia participated in the repatriation of unauthorized foreign arrivals (PATI) back to their home countries in the past week.

Malaysian Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail in a statement to the media in Putrajaya on Friday said for the period March 1-7, 2024, there were 5,983 unauthorized foreign arrivals (PATI) who had registered for repatriation and 1,864 had returned to their home countries.

“Those who have actually left the country are 1,864, some others are taking care of their travel documents, tickets and so on,” he said.

The highest number came from Indonesia which reached 3,115 people, followed by Bangladesh (846), India (700), Pakistan (610), Sri Lanka (279), Nepal (157), as well as 237 people from the Philippines, Myanmar, Syria, Egypt, Nigeria, Thailand, Vietnam, China and other countries.

Saifuddin said that if you look at the profile of the entire PATI, they come from 48 countries. However, those mentioned are indeed from the countries with the largest number of PATI there.

He said that through the process of paying fines from the repatriation program in that period, 2.9 million Malaysian ringgit (RM) or around Rp9.6 billion was obtained.

The Malaysian government began running a migrant repatriation program from March 1 to December 31, 2024. The program targets foreign nationals who overstay, misuse work visas, or are in the country without documents.
