Chairperson of the Federation of ASEAN Shipowners Association (FASA), Carmelia Hartarto said Indonesia’s leadership in FASA in the 2024-2025 period was an opportunity to increase its role in the regional shipping industry sector, especially in ASEAN.
“Leadership in the regional arena will be an opportunity to further introduce the country’s maritime industry to delegates from ASEAN and Asian member countries,” she said during the FASA annual meeting in Badung Regency, Bali, Wednesday.
“Leadership in FASA and later in the Asian Shipwoners Association (ASA) will also be an opportunity for Indonesia to contribute more to the advancement of the shipping and maritime industry at the Asian regional level,” she said.
Carmelita, who is also Chairperson of the Indonesian National Shipowners Association (INSA), said the organization of the 60th Executive Committee Meeting & 49th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of FASA in Bali also brought benefits to Indonesia in strengthening beyond cabotage.
According to him, there are already many national shipping companies serving international routes with a wide variety of commodities being transported.
By showing good leadership from the Indonesian shipping association at this big meeting, it is hoped that there will be an increase in cooperation between members that spurs exporters to increasingly use national ship services for their export activities.
He explained that the FASA meeting, which was attended by delegates of shipping association representatives from FASA member ASEAN countries and national ship owners, discussed various crucial issues concerning the regional and global shipping industry, such as decarbonization and green shipping.
“This forum is our opportunity to share information, share best practices, enhance cooperation between shipping in ASEAN and share information to find solutions to every shipping challenge and problem in ASEAN,” she said.
Carmelita Hartoto added that the FASA meeting in Bali can also be utilized by delegates of FASA member countries and shipping businesses in ASEAN to network with each other.
“Business opportunities and increased shipping cooperation between fellow FASA members in ASEAN include support in financing ship procurement, ship insurance, and shipyards,” she said.
