Former Deputy Foreign Minister Dino Patti Djalal believes the new government resulting from the 2024 elections needs to formulate foreign policy concepts and actions to be taken in its first six months of running the government.
The formulation is needed because the international community will be critical of Indonesia’s foreign policy under the new government, she told reporters after receiving the Order of Merit from Ukraine in Jakarta, Wednesday (28/2).
“Between October 2024 and May-June 2025, there are ASEAN summits, APEC summits, G20 summits and so on,” said the veteran diplomat born on September 10, 1965.
According to the founder of the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI), these multilateral meetings are opportunities for the new government to convey its foreign policy concept.
Dino further argued that Indonesia in the past nine years has been “geopolitical” despite its strong globalization and economic aspects.
In the midst of current and future global dynamics, Dino argues that the Indonesian Government resulting from the 2024 elections is required to be adept at navigating among the world’s major powers.
“The important thing is that we must have a strategy from the start. Otherwise we will be run over (by other countries). We will be reactive,” Dino said.
