The Indonesian government says the five main aspects of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) 2026-2030 Strategic Plan (Renstra) need to be reviewed periodically so that its implementation remains relevant to face various economic challenges now and in the future.
“Indonesia is of the view that all these elements need to be reviewed periodically to ensure that the AEC remains capable of responding to very dynamic economic challenges,” Assistant Deputy for Regional and Sub-Regional Economic Cooperation at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Netty Muharni said here on Friday.
The five aspects include strategic goals, objectives, strategic measures, activities, and performance measures.
He said specifically for the aspects of goals, strategic efforts, activities, and performance assessment, Indonesia proposed a review mechanism every 5 years, while the strategic goals aspect would be reviewed in the next 20 years or if needed.
He also said that the proposal was approved by ASEAN members.
The AEC Strategic Plan 2026-2030 is targeted to be finalized by the end of 2024 and will be submitted to the heads of member states for approval at the 46th ASEAN Summit in 2025.
To ensure the preparation of the strategic plan goes well, ASEAN member countries held the 3rd Meeting of the Working Group on AEC Post-2025 in Vang Vieng, Laos, Monday (19/2).
The meeting agreed on the guidelines for the AEC Strategic Plan 2026-2030 which will be used as a guide in the preparation of each sector’s strategic plan and the implementation of the End Term Review (ETR) of the AEC Blueprint 2025.
“The ASEAN Secretariat needs to finalize the matrix template to make it clearer to be circulated immediately to sectoral bodies to guide the implementation of the ETR and the preparation of sectoral Strategic Plans,” said Netty.
