The Indonesian government expressed its readiness to discuss the Readiness Assessment Methodology (RAM) on AI ethics with countries in the ASEAN and Asia Pacific regions.
Deputy Minister of Communications and Informatics Nezar Patria said Indonesia is committed to being the organizer of the interactive dialog between countries to discuss the matter.
“ASEAN and Asia Pacific member countries exchanged ideas and experiences on the implementation of AI ecosystem in their respective countries. We talked about the readiness to implement the AI Ethical Guidelines,” Nezar said in an official statement received on Wednesday.
The commitment was also conveyed by Nezar after a meeting with delegates from the ASEAN and Asia Pacific regions at the Brdo Congress Center, Slovenia, Tuesday (6/2).
Nezar said Indonesia is ready to bridge the dialogue to implement the AI Ethics RAM discussion to take place in 2024.
“A number of countries in ASEAN have not implemented or been ready for the RAM, but several countries have shown their willingness and desire to be the implementer. So we will try with other countries in ASEAN to accelerate the RAM process,” he said.
In the development of AI, the Government of Indonesia is responsive, so of course in welcoming the discussion of the AI ethics RAM, Indonesia wants to take an active role as an implementer.
“Therefore, there must be strong collaboration from all countries on how to view, utilize and collaborate for AI. This includes increasing the capacity of human resources in each country regarding the latest developments in AI governance,” he explained.
In order to have a proper understanding of AI as the latest technology, Deputy Minister Nezar Patria considered the importance of active participation of all parties in formulating regulations on AI.
He said the discussion was important because artificial intelligence would determine the future face of a more inclusive world.
“So that no country is too dominant or too strong to regulate other countries in the development of AI. Because AI technology will have an impact on all human beings on earth, it is necessary to have a common view and the principle of no one left behind must continue to be applied,” he concluded.
