AirAsia Confident Jakarta-Kinabalu Flight Occupancy Reaches 80 Percent

Indonesia AirAsia Operations Director Captain Wuri Septiawan believes the flight occupancy rate on the Jakarta-Kinabalu route this year can reach 80 percent.

“We are sure that we will be able to fulfill 80 percent,” Wuri said when met in Kinabalu, Wednesday.

The target was set based on the achievement of international flights in 2023 which also recorded a load factor of 80 percent.

“In 2023 we mostly all our flights are 80 percent (passenger occupancy rate),” he added.

With this addition, he believes that passengers of this low-cost airline are able to increase by 20 percent from 2023 which was recorded to carry 391 passengers.

It is known, low-cost airline AirAsia reopened a direct flight route from Jakarta to Kinabalu, Malaysia (6/2).

AirAsia opens direct flights from Jakarta to Kinabalu with a frequency of three times a week, namely on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Flights from Jakarta via Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK-BKI) depart at 12:15 pm and are projected to arrive in Kota Kinabalu at 15:55 local time.

While the reverse route (BKI-CGK) departs at 16:35 local time and arrives at 18:35 WIB.

Data from the Central Bureau of Statistics shows that tourists from Malaysia occupy the top position of the most foreign visitors to Indonesia in 2023, namely 16.28 percent of the total or 1.9 billion tourists.

While the Sabah Immigration Department records during January – November 2023, Indonesian tourists occupied the third position by contributing 78,693 foreign visitors to Sabah.

The opening of the Jakarta-Kinabalu route is also expected to be able to improve the tourism sector and the economy of the two countries, especially Kota Kinabalu, which has a number of tourism potentials.
