Malaysia’s 16th King Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah completed his five-year reign on Tuesday.
Malaysia’s 16th King and Empress Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah left Istana Negara for Dataran Parlimen on Tuesday morning for a formal farewell ceremony symbolizing the end of the reign.
The Royal Malaysian Police closed a number of roads in central Kuala Lumpur connecting the Istana Negara and Parliament House for the official farewell ceremony.
The Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department deployed approximately 91 police forces to control traffic during the “state drive” which was the highlight of the event before the 16th King and Queen of Malaysia headed to the Bunga Raya Complex at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang, Selangor, to return to Pahang.
The special aircraft carrying the 16th King and Queen of Malaysia headed to Kuantan Air Base, Pahang, at around 11am local time, escorted by a number of fighter planes.
Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah has been at the helm of the country since January 31, 2019 and ends on January 30, 2024.
During his five-year reign, the 16th King of Malaysia has appointed four Prime Ministers namely Mahathir Mohamad, Muhyiddin Yassin, Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Anwar Ibrahim.
In his decree, King Al-Sultan Abdullah asked all Malaysians to maintain the unity and spirit of community life wholeheartedly. This is said to be the true reference for the State of Malaysia.
The Agong also said it would be very sad if the unity that has been worked on together collapses again due to weakness and negligence.
Furthermore, the Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, who was elected as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong at the 263rd Special Meeting of the Ruling Council on October 27, 2023, will be announced as the 16th King of Malaysia on Wednesday (Jan 31).
The Oath Taking and Oath of Office Signing Ceremony at the 264th Special Meeting of the Ruling Council is scheduled at Balairung Seri, Istana Negara on the same day.
