After holding a bilateral meeting with PM Gusmao, President Jokowi welcomed the reactivation of the joint committee for the management of the land borders of Indonesia and Timor-Leste, including cross-border posts.

Second, Jokowi praised Timor-Leste’s trust in Indonesian state-owned companies that have handled several projects, such as road construction in Oecusse, and the expansion of Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport in Dili.

The president also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on information technology cooperation.

“We also encourage cooperation in telecommunications infrastructure, including the fiber optic investment plan,” Jokowi remarked.

Indonesia is committed to supporting the full membership of Timor-Leste in ASEAN.

The two leaders discussed political issues in Myanmar, and Indonesia and Timor-Leste agreed to support Laos’ Chairmanship in this year’s ASEAN Summit to encourage the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus.

Meanwhile, PM Gusmao welcomed the work that has been carried out by the negotiation team to complete the land boundary negotiations.

“We now have a clearer understanding of the issue, and we believe we will find a solution to this problem. As stated by President Jokowi, the interest to settle the boundary with Indonesia will strengthen the sovereignty of our two countries,” PM Xanana stated.
