4,086 Tons of Fish from Labuan Bajo Exported to Malaysia and Singapore

A total of 4,086 tons of fish from Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province were exported to two countries namely Malaysia and Singapore for the November-December 2023 period.

“The first export was on November 6, 2023 as much as 438 tons of fish through Komodo Labuan Bajo Airport,” said Head of the West Manggarai Food Security and Fisheries Office (DKPP) Fatinci Reynilda in Labuan Bajo, Monday.

She explained that in November 2023 fish exports from Labuan Bajo were carried out 8 times reaching 2,246 tons. Furthermore, in December 2023 fish exports from Labuan Bajo were carried out 7 times around 1,840 tons.

“The total exports recorded were 4,086 tons of fish. Fish exported to two countries are mackerel, red snapper and grouper. Currently only one entrepreneur has exported, we encourage fish collectors to be able to export as well,” she said.

She added the fish produced from Labuan Bajo’s sea waters have good quality and high economic value in the market. The West Manggarai Regional Government encourages more entrepreneurs to look at the quality of fisheries potential in Labuan Bajo.

Fatinci also explained that the number of fishermen in West Manggarai Regency is 3,050 people spread across four sub-districts namely Komodo District, Boleng District, South Lembor District and Macang Pacar District.

“The total fish production in 2023 is 7,047,606 kg, an increase from the previous year in 2022 which reached 6,751,671 kg,” she said.
