ANTARA

The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy said that the 2024 ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) in Vientiane, Laos, on January 22-27 will raise the issue of sustainable tourism.

“We will concretely tell our achievements and also tell our plans for tourism villages. So this tourist village is one of the concrete forms of tourism that strongly holds the principles of sustainability and inclusivity,” said Deputy for Resources and Institutions of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy Martini Mohamad Paham at The Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno, Monday.

In addition, Martini explained that in the meeting between ASEAN countries on tourism, Indonesia as a participating country will also provide input related to the blue economy, green economy, and circular economy in the ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan for 2025 and beyond.

“We will give examples of renewable energy, green investment, green jobs, and anything related to sustainable tourism,” said Martini.

In addition to sustainable tourism issues, the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2024 agenda will also discuss the Mutual Recognition Arrangement on Tourism Professionals (MRA-TP) and tourism promotion in the Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) cooperation.

“One of them is Indonesia promoting 10 provinces in Sumatra and also Riau Islands. This is our joint effort to promote Nusantara tourism in the ASEAN context,” said Martini.

Previously, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Head of the Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Menparekraf/Baparekraf), Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, officially handed over the chairmanship of ATF 2024 to Laos after the ATF 2023 event chaired by Indonesia was completed on February 5, 2023 in Yogyakarta.

Indonesia, Sandi said, will support and guide Laos in its role as chairman of the upcoming ASEAN Tourism Forum.

“We hope Laos will continue to strive to strengthen collaboration with ASEAN member states and partner countries to drive growth and create new and quality jobs in the tourism sector,” Sandi said during the ATF 2023 closing ceremony in Yogyakarta on February 5, 2023.

Indonesia’s leadership in ATF 2023 resulted in a number of agreements to make the ASEAN region the epicenter of global economic growth through the tourism sector including increasing the capacity of ASEAN tourism professionals through the Mutual Recognition Arrangement for Tourism Professionals (MRA-TP), increasing the development of responsible, sustainable and inclusive tourism.
